Exhibition and Environmental Design
I’ve been fortunate to work with some fantastic teams — and also to produce many projects entirely on my own. EACH situation brings its own opportunities.
Trinity Museum Historical exhibition
A fully contextual experience of the church’s beginnings in early New York, and an engaging global perspective on the lesser-known events of the 18th and 19th centuries. I was responsible for every aspect of the project, including curatorial, acquisitions, editorial, 2 & 3-D design and project management
Utah Museum of Natural History
On contract for Ralph Appelbaum NY, I produced a complete interpretive graphics package for the newly built museum.
. A serious amount of materials research and architectural customization
went into this project, which comprises over 150,000 square feet of innovative exhibit space.
Sacred Sound
This Trinity Museum project explored the history and present state of liturgical music. Trinity’s 19th-century
pipe organ was damaged on 9-11 and put in storage, and when I saw the dusty pipes in a dark basement, I knew they would become the sculptural centerpiece of an exhibit. In the course of creating the show, we unearthed a good narrative.
Conceived and produced complete project.
Impressionists in Winter
One of many exhibitions at The Brooklyn Museum for which I designed and project managed all interpretive graphics.
Our Neighbors
In this exhibit I set out to dispel the commonly-held idea that the Wall Street neighborhood was “just a bunch of bankers.” I came up with the initial concept, went out and found the subjects, photographed and interviewed them — a dozen or more very non-banker types — in a makeshift studio. This show was written up in the New York Times City Section.
Environmental Design and Graphics
Various commercial and institutional projects utilizing environmental graphics to communicate, promote a message and provide ambience. In addition to the obvious printed or fabricated pieces, some of these I hand-crafted or hand-painted myself.
I like to keep my hand in things.
Print Design
Paper still communicates - mailers and brochures, magazines and calendars.
